The Learning Commons seeks to assist faculty in

  • Promoting pedagogically sound and innovative applications of academic technology that are grounded in contemporary research
  • Enabling students to develop skills and knowledge for successful teaching and learning enhancing support through innovation in academic technology
  • Providing learning opportunities without boundaries of time and place
  • Supporting information and communications competence — the set of skills and ability to identifying appropriate sources of information, extracting meaning from those sources, and sharing of insights derived.
  • Providing collaborative learning spaces (i.e. smart labs, knowledge station, research consultation areas, and individual and group study space within close proximity to librarians). This proximity affords teachable moments with faculty and students, permitting librarians to teach new, transfer and continuing students about information competence and research strategies. From these relationships, new curriculum strategies will emerge, including modified assignments that better support advancement of information competence and proficiency in digital information resource navigation and usage.
